Blackheart Street Wand
"The day I got this Blackheart Ironwood Wand in the mail, I spent the entire day examining and riffing with this wand in the studio, it felt like I had finally made it, I had finally graduated. After fifty some odd years of blood sweat and tears, I was Finally a Master at my craft.
I finally received The Real Wand, from The Society Du Magique."
-- Master Street Magician Jimmy Talksalot
Can your wand survive the streets?
When a magic wand is used in multiple shows a day, hitting cups, coins, and table tops, the quality of the wood makes a huge difference. In his book, "The Royal Touch," the "King of Street Magicians," Jim Cellini describes having broken "an average of five wands a month" when he was busking with store-bought magic wands. He got the right idea when he commissioned wands made out of the ironwood "Lignum Vitae."
Unlike most woods, Lignum Vitae is very dense and resinous. It's so dense, in fact, it sinks in water like a stone. Most woods are dry and splinter and split after striking the sharp tops of cups, or the edges of silver dollars. Resinous woods are more robust, and merely accumulate tiny invisible dents, despite aggressive use. They maintain a naturally "smooth" feel, even without additional finishes.
Our proprietary Blackheart Ironwood is tougher and even more resinous than Lignum Vitae.
Baseball bats are made of Hickory, one of the toughest domestic hardwoods. It has a Janka hardness rating of 1,800lb. Our proprietary Blackheart Ironwood is over 3,000lb on the Janka scale, making it one of the hardest woods in the world. You can use it as a "thumper" with confidence.
Each Blackheart wand is handmade in the USA. Not only can they be used to hit the tops of the hardest, sharpest cups without taking any noticeable damage, they are designed with details to allow for many classic magic tricks. The length and thickness are ideal for spinning, striking, and throwing moves. The rounded ends are aesthetic, but also allow for the "vanishing wand" to be executed with no strain on the fingertips. Blackheart wands are produced to collectible quality, with functional durability.
Here's more of what Jimmy Talksalot has to say about his Blackheart Street Wand:
"Makoto's Wand is a secret wand, but not a trick wand, it is truly a Magic Wand.
It is not gimmicked or gaffed, but it is designed secretly to compliment, aid, and anticipate every need, gesture, and movement of The Street Magician.
The Makoto Wand, has special features, that enable the operator to perform miracles with grace, subtly, and no Tell.
The Layman may examine the wand to his heart's content, and cannot have any clue as to what advantages it may give to the Magician.
They are a secret, because only a Magician can possibly understand the myriad of advantages carved into what appears to be a simple beautiful stick.
Add to this, those features are almost undetectable under close examination anyway.
Add to that, even the wood to which it is carved, has multiple aids to the Magician.
Knowing this, when the Magician holds this wand, and announces to his audience, that it is a magic wand, it has the ability to project the power of truth on the audience.
Because the magician believes it himself.
And this of course is Magic 101."
